My Journey

Hello, I am Isis. I live on the edge of the Cotswolds with my husband Ollie and two dogs, Bilbo and Suki. It is a stunning part of the UK in which I feel very fortunate to have landed, and a wonderful place from which to create music. I've always been musical as far back as I can remember, to the point that it’s never felt like a hobby or a task–more of a way of life, a religion that gets me through the day.

I didn’t have a typical childhood; it was unconventional and nomadic. My mother took me out of school from the age of seven and homeschooled me. She is also a creative, and we spent a lot of time at music festivals and art events across Europe and the UK. This was a very impressionable, poignant part of my life where I was exposed to meeting some incredible artists, which I believe only fueled my passion for music even further.

These experiences started me writing songs and poetry. I picked up the guitar and though this totally transformed my words and made them come to life, I could always imagine a much bigger sound behind me. At the time, I didn't know how to create it. Then, when I was sixteen my mum bought an Apple laptop with Garage Band and this changed my world. I taught myself how to use it and this took me to another level of recording my songs. I began uploading them onto SoundCloud.

I moved out shortly after from Bedford to Bristol, and it wasn't easy to find much time for my music, though I still managed to make my way to open mic nights from time to time. Through this I started to find a nice little community of other musicians and artists to share my experiences with. I also started to find the niche and genre that I felt the most drawn to; I take a lot of inspiration from nature, as well as gothic, folklore and fantasy subcultures.

For a period, I worked as a receptionist. This is where I met a gentleman named Harry Hook, a writer and director primarily known for his film ‘Lord of the Files’. He offered me an opportunity to create some music for a documentary of his (which is still in production), and I was extremely honored. Through this experience I realized how much I enjoyed composing, creating nuances and textures to enhance emotion, and helping the listener have a more immersive experience.

Then lockdown happened, and this was another major turning point for me. I was previously extremely under-confident about posting my music online, but lockdown really pushed me to get myself out there; at the time we didn’t know how long lockdown would be or what the state world would come to, so I felt like I really had nothing to lose. It was then I also started to develop a deeper interest in gaming soundtracks and would often listen to them whilst pottering around my home, and this gave me a beneficial sense of escapism. I really liked the idea of creating a whole new world in which to fully immerse yourself, and with gaming you can powerfully do that. I desired to be a part of creating that experience for others, and I realized this was a job that I wanted to do.

I saved up and treated myself to Logic Pro (an upgrade from GarageBand) and started teaching myself basic mixing and mastering skills. I began uploading more, and shortly after released my first official song “Take Me Home”.

This step gave me the confidence boost I needed to keep pushing forward. So many people started to see and communicate with me, appreciating my work, and this was extremely wholesome and rewarding. It can be difficult when you're working behind a screen, not knowing if what you’re doing is good or means a thing. Having such a warm response meant more than I could express. I started being contacted and connecting with other musicians online and we started doing collaborations together. This has helped me improve my skills and I’ve had the pleasure of working with some extremely talented people. I’ve absolutely loved growing roots within the online community and exploring new ways of working.

This inspired me to fully go for it and try to make my dream of being a composer become a reality. So in 2023, feeling I still had so much to learn, I decided to go to university to deepen my knowledge and skill set. I’m currently in my second year studying ‘Creative Music Technology’ at University.

So…I guess this is another beginning of my career. Let's see where life takes me.
