The Dreamer

As someone who’s experienced burnout I wanted to come up with creative ways to generate new ideas for songwriting and composing. Normally I’ll have a vague idea of a theme I would like to create or I come up with some lyrics that I try to transcribe into a vocal melody or vice versa then go from there. However, this time around I decided to create a piece of music purely based off of images. So I went straight to Pinterest and curated a mood board that inspired me.

Just by looking at these images I was overflowing with inspiration and ideas. From this I wrote a little poem which I felt set the scene of what I visualised and wanted to create.

‘Within time and space there is a place.

That is all knowing and pure.

When you lay your weary head to rest

Only then can you see it at it’s best

Explore the ever moving wave of clouds

That shape shifts the world around.

Wandering high and free

Exploring new possibilities.’

From these images I hear a church choir softy singing into a swirling abyss of clouds that carries and takes you on a journey of self discovery, freedom and adventure. You first ascent to an angelic realm then follow the trail to the destination that is your destiny.

I hope that you can identify and relate to my composition. I also hope this helps inspire another method of creativity if you’re feeling stuck in a rut.
